We believe it’s important to be honest and transparent about the circumstances and privileges that shaped our path to financial independence.

When we first began sharing our story anonymously, it felt natural to share numbers, goals, and progress updates. As the Modest Millionaires platform grew, so did our reflection on how certain factors helped us along the way — factors that aren’t always visible in blog posts or financial charts.
This legacy post offers a deeper look into the advantages and choices that supported our journey.
Our financial journey was not built from scratch. We both come from financially stable families who prioritized education, hard work, and long-term planning. Our parents taught us the value of saving, supported us through our studies, and helped us build a solid foundation.
We also live in Quebec — where affordable education, subsidized childcare, and access to public services (like paid parental leave and healthcare) reduced some major financial pressures.
These advantages matter. And while we’ve worked hard and made intentional decisions, we’ve always wanted to recognize that our path was made easier by a mix of timing, location, upbringing, and support.
As semi-anonymous bloggers, we once shared detailed financial updates — including our income range, spending levels, and percentage progress toward FI.
When our platform evolved into a coaching business and we stepped out of anonymity, we became more selective about what we disclose. Here’s how we think about it today:
We’ve always believed that transparency should have boundaries — especially when it comes to our children’s privacy and our own evolving comfort levels.
This blog started as a personal journal, not a business. Over time, as I realized how passionate I was about helping others simplify their financial lives, it naturally evolved into a coaching practice.
We may earn affiliate income if you use links on this site (clearly disclosed when applicable). We also now offer coaching services, courses, and speaking engagements — all designed to support others on their journey with integrity and practical tools.
We’ll always be transparent about how and why we make money through Modest Millionaires.
Yes — we still plan to earn money even after reaching financial independence. But we see this income as optional, not essential. We’ll continue to share our experiences, ideas, and passions in ways that align with our values — whether that’s through paid work or volunteering.
Our definition of FI includes time freedom, impact, and choice — not stopping all work altogether.
Thank you for being here — whether you’ve followed our journey from the beginning or are just discovering our story now.
This post is a living reflection of our commitment to honesty and humility. It’s not perfect, but it’s one small way we hope to show that behind every financial journey is a full life — shaped by context, decisions, luck, and support.
